Overview
The Benefits Manager will oversee benefits programs for the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico by providing leadership, development and management of all benefit programs. The role will focus on managing all benefit plans, compliance, third-party vendor partnerships, market competitiveness and fiscal responsibility, as well as employee engagement. The Benefits Manager will manage and develop the Benefits team, in addition to working with cross-functional departments.
Description
Responsible for managing and administering the company’s health and welfare plans, retirement plans, and other ancillary benefit plans.
Drive strategic planning, design, implementation, maintenance, compliance, and administration of benefit and wellness programs.
Responsible for planning, communication, and execution of annual open enrollment.
Build and deliver effective communication strategies to educate employees of the company’s benefit offerings. Create user-friendly materials and presentations.
Review and analyze current employee benefit programs for effectiveness and market competitiveness; provides recommendations for improvement.
Responsible for supporting compliance and reporting: summary plan descriptions, 5500 IRS preparation, ERISA, HIPAA, and annual non-discrimination testing.
Serve as an administrator for the company's 401(k) and coordinate all aspects of the 401(k) retirement plan, including rollovers, loans, and excess contributions.
Work closely with brokers, stakeholders, and ERISA counsel to ensure plans remain in compliance, including annual filings, audits, communications, amendments, and plan documents.
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state statutes, including (but not limited to) ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, and ACA.
Has knowledge of Workday, how to launch open enrollment, update/change benefit plans, and run reports.
Ability to lead ad-hoc projects and initiatives as needed.
Required Skills
Expert knowledge in benefits administration, retirement benefits, and related laws including IRS, ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, and ADA regulations
Experience with leave administration across a multi-state environment, Workers’ Compensation
Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability connect with employees and management
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUPS) required
Ability to continuously look for areas of opportunity and improvement
Strong leadership and team management skills
Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment
Experience using Workday
Job requirements
Required Experience and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s in Human Resources or Business Administration with the related field of study
5+ years of experience in employee benefits with experience managing benefit programs for a large, multi-state employee
2+ years of management responsibility, including working with and presenting to senior management
Experience identifying opportunities and driving enhancements to programs and offerings
Demonstrated success in the design and implementation of benefits and well-being strategies
Desired Skills and Experience:
CBP or CEBS certification a plus
Experience managing benefits in Canada and Puerto Rico
