Job description

Our Unbabel division is seeking a motivated Software Engineer to join our team, as we expand our ability to deliver seamless, scalable cross-platform translation capabilities to our enterprise partners. You’ll drive forward the development, maintenance, and expansion of core backend services that power smooth, intelligent language solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement reliable architectures and core services.

  • Build, maintain, and optimize codebases in a testable and efficient manner.

  • Develop, optimize, and support critical services, infrastructure, and applications in production environments.

  • Help evolve our architecture for scale, resilience, and performance.

  • Break down complex problems and prioritize technical initiatives with product and engineering teams.

  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, automation, code quality, and architectural best practices.

  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver solutions aligned with rapidly changing business and technical needs.

  • Respond collaboratively to platform and service challenges, employing rapid troubleshooting and prototyping when necessary.

Job requirements

Must Haves:

  • 2+ years of backend engineering experience with Python or Go

  • Experience building APIs or system integrations (REST and/or gRPC)

  • Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. Postgres, MongoDB)

  • Proven ability to write clean, well-tested code; competence in test automation; familiarity with secure and maintainable architecture

  • Experience working in Agile development environments

  • Strong English communication skills

  • Collaborative mindset with attention to detail, proactive attitude, and eagerness to learn

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with Python frameworks (FastAPI, Flask).

  • Contributions to ML/NLP projects or personal projects demonstrating AI engineering capabilities.

  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and Kubernetes.

  • Past work building, operating, and monitoring production services.

  • DevOps exposure, especially in AWS, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).

  • Hands-on experience instrumenting metrics and alerts (Prometheus, Grafana, PagerDuty).
