Job description

We are seeking an experienced ASL Interpreter to provide dedicated interpretation support for a large manufacturing and engineering organization in the Detroit area. 

This is a long-term engagement expected to involve approximately 1,800 hours of interpretation services throughout 2027, with the primary assignment based onsite in Detroit. The selected interpreter will support meetings, engineering discussions, and day-to-day in-person communication while working closely with internal teams and stakeholders. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for meetings, conversations, presentations, and other in-person interactions. 

  • Provide consistent onsite interpretation support approximately 4 days per week

  • Travel to manufacturing and operational facilities across North America as needed. 

  • Support occasional travel to additional U.S., Mexico, and Canada locations, as well as potential international supplier locations. 

  • Serve as the primary interpreter while coordinating with backup/replacement interpreters when coverage is required. 

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, accuracy, and impartiality. 

  • Adapt interpretation services to technical, engineering, manufacturing, and business-related environments.

Job requirements

Qualifications 

  • BEI Level II minimum and/or NIC certification required. 

  • Professional experience providing ASL interpretation in workplace, corporate, technical, or similar environments. 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work effectively in an onsite, fast-paced professional environment. 

  • Willingness and ability to travel as required. 

  • Ability to commit to a long-term engagement and a primarily onsite schedule in Detroit.
